Wire Fraud Alert

Wire fraud scams are becoming more and more common in North Carolina real estate transactions.

There are many parties involved and all have email accounts vulnerable to hackers—client, realtor, attorney, insurance agent, lender. Sophisticated hackers are monitoring email accounts and waiting for a window to steal monies by convincingly impersonating the realtor or attorney, and then sending messages urging the clients to wire funds to fake accounts set up by the scammers.

A recent hack of DocuSign, a leading provider of digital signature technology used to validate documents, was hacked and email addresses taken. PLEASE call and confirm before wiring any money.
